M.A. Counselling Psychologist
I have completed my M.A. in Counselling Psychology from S.N.D.T University,Mumbai in 2009. Today, It has been almost 15 years of a soulfully satisfying journey in the field of the mental health profession. I have never put myself in a box and defined my role as a counselor or limited my experience to any particular age group. I have gained varied experience, such as a shadow teacher for an autistic child, multiple home visits as a behavior therapist and play therapist. I have closely worked with children and adults with special needs and provide individual and group counselling to adults, teenagers and children etc. I have always believed psychology and the mental health field are a continuous growth process, and I, as a facilitator, need to upgrade my knowledge time and again. A few of my extended studies, workshops and courses include Remedial Course, Play Therapy Workshop, MHTP - Narrative Therapy, Literacy & Numeracy Course, AITP - Autism Intervention Training Program, etc Areas of expertise - Intervention for Children with Special Needs: · Practicing multiple and diverse ranges of therapies such as Behaviour Therapy, Play Therapy, Autism Interventions, Narrative Practices etc, modifying and customizing them as per the needs and severity of the patient. · Setting goals and IEP in conformity with parent’s and school’s concerns provides holistic development. · Applying a family-centric approach to design a specific program and focus on achieving the target goals. · Providing Individual and Group sessions to strengthen the patient's Social, Interactive and Communication skills. · Collaborating with other professionals involved with patient's treatment to provide overall progress. · Implementing Prevocational Skill and Life Skills Sessions to adults with Special Needs and Behavioural difficulties. Counseling: · Providing individual counseling for children, teenagers and adults facing social, emotional, and behaviour difficulties. · Working with teenagers facing bullying, having discords with friends and families, anxiety during exams, dealing with parental divorce and relationship difficulties, low self-esteem, dealing with heartbreak. Also, train them for soft skills like time management, organizational skills, study tricks and skills and anger management. · Expertise in parental counseling - anxiety and stress related to family members, fidelity issues, coping with relationship failure. Giving clients tools and support for building self-esteem, transitions in different phases of life, anger management, depression, Covid-19 anxiety, burnout effects, emotional distress, procrastination, self-image issues, fears and phobias, adults with ADHD etc. · Client-lead sessions and firm believer that "My client is the expert of his/her life and are capable of arriving at the solution." I strongly abide by confidentiality and always take a non-judgmental Stance. I use a Multidisciplinary and Eclectic approach to help my client identify areas of concern, work through them, and derive effective coping techniques and insights. Workshops: Conducting pre-primary and secondary classes workshops for study skills, stress management, time management, etc. · Organize educational and training seminars for parents and teachers to identify critical markers and smoothly collaborate the patient's IEP in day-to-day life. · Write blogs and interact via Instagram Lives and posts on my handle @mentaldotsbydisha .
